The third edition of Campeones Cup, an annual match that pits the reigning MLS Cup champion against the winner of LIGA MX’s Campeón de Campeones, has been cancelled in a joint decision by the two leagues.

MLS and LIGA MX made it clear that the event will return in 2021.

The 2020 Campeones Cup was scheduled to take place on August 12 at CenturyLink Field, the home of the 2019 MLS Cup champions, Seattle Sounders FC. The LIGA MX participant had not yet been determined when the COVID-19 pandemic brought a temporary halt to professional soccer in North America.

The two leagues split the first two editions of Campeones Cup: Tigres UANL downed Toronto FC 3-1 in the inaugural edition of 2018 and Atlanta United took the 2019 trophy by defeating Club America 3-2.
