Lionel Messi was once again the star of the show in another Inter Miami CF victory at this summer’s Leagues Cup. The Argentine maestro would send a late free-kick into the top corner to equalize against FC Dallas and send the game to penalties, where the Florida outfit came out on top to clinch their spot in the quarter-finals.
As has been the case since he first made his debut against Cruz Azul last month, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner has been amazing everyone with his talents, and is generating all kinds of reactions from fans, players and managers alike.
One of those who never ceases to be surprised by Messi's talent is David Beckham, the Inter Miami CF president and co-owner, and the main architect of La Pulga’s arrival in the United States.
Although the English soccer legend was not short of impressive moments in his own playing days, he’s still being left amazed by what Messi has been achieving since his arrival on North American soil
Last night was no exception, after that excellent free kick: Beckham yelled, opened his arms and gestured in disbelief at what he had just seen at Toyota Stadium.
Gerardo Martino's admiration
On top of David Beckham's reaction, Messi's head coach Gerardo Martino was also left in awe at the Argentine's effort. "Tata" Martino was full of praise for the team's captain in the post-match press conference:
"Most of the time there's a free-kick in that part of the pitch you get the feeling that it's going to be a goal. That only happens with him"
He then added: "Fortunately we have him on the team, and he was once again decisive. We have the best player in the world, that can't be overlooked."
Inter Miami CF will now be eagerly waiting to find out who their Leagues Cup 2023 quarter-final opponent will be, as they prepare to face the winner of the match-up between Charlotte FC and Houston Dynamo FC.
