Liga MX Apertura Matchday 1 Recap

The Apertura 2023 is off and running! The first three days of the tournament will be played and then there will be a break of more than a month to play Leagues Cup 2023, which begins Friday, July 21. Just over a month after seeing Tigres crowned champion in the Clausura, Matchday 1 was full of emotions -- here's our summary:

Club América 1-2 FC Juaréz

It was a painful start for Las Águilas and Andre Soares Jardine. In the opening game of the tournament, the Azulcremas started off on the wrong foot. After Leo Suárez had scored, the final stretch of the game the game was tough for them and with goals from Aitor García and Ángel Zapata, the visitors returned home with the three points.

Mazatlán FC 1-1 Club Pachuca

In the Kraken, the two sides shared the points. Lucas Di Yorio debuted for Tuzos and scored his first goal, while, for the Sinaloans, Eduard Bello tied the game.

Club Tijuana 2-3 Pumas

It was a back-and-forth affair that took place at the border in which the two teams combined for five goals. The visitors recovered well in the last 20 minutes and with a penalty from Juan Ignacio Dinenno, plus another from Toto Salvio, they won their first game of the tournament.

Atlético San Luis 1-1 CF Monterrey

It was a draw at the Alfonso Lastras. Rogelio Funes Mori scored the first goal of the game, but Ángel Zaldívar equalized from 11 steps.

Club Tigres 1-1 Club Puebla

This was an entertaining match between both teams that impressed in the 2023 Clausura Liguilla. La Franja left with the feeling that they could have won, after Nico Ibáñez equalized in added time.

Atlas FC 2-0 Cruz Azul

Things started well for Los Rojinegros against a struggling visiting side. Eduardo Aguirre and Aldo Rocha scored for the hosts.

Toluca CF 0-0 Club Necaxa

No damage was done at Nemesio Stadium, despite attempts by both teams.

Club Santos Laguna 0-2 Club Querétaro

This was a great win on the part of the visitors. Federico Lértora and Camilo Sanvezzo scored in the final stretch of the match to give Los Gallos all three points.

Club León 1-2 Chivas de Guadalajara

The round ended with a big win for Los Rojiblancos, who started the 2023 Apertura with a measure of revenge. In the second half, youth squad player Jonathan Padilla debuted as a substitute and minutes later scored the goal with which Rebaño Sagrado took the win.
