WHAT TO EXPECT?
Both of these clubs enter this year's Leagues Cup with several similarities. Nashville SC, runners-up in 2023, experienced the disappointment of an early exit in the 2024 edition before failing to qualify for the tournament altogether in 2025. Club León, meanwhile, lifted the trophy in 2022 but La Fiera enters this year's tournament hoping to rediscover the success it once enjoyed before the change to the current format.
The current form of both clubs helps explain why Nashville enters as the clear favorite. The hosts not only lead the MLS Eastern Conference but also sit atop the league-wide standings, establishing themselves as one of the leading contenders for MLS Cup. León, on the other hand, has struggled domestically, failing to qualify for the Liga MX playoffs in each of the last three tournaments and earning its first victory of the Apertura campaign only in its most recent match.
The challenge appears considerably greater for the visitors. Their victory over Pachuca could provide a significant boost in confidence ahead of their trip to GEODIS Park. However, León has shown in recent years that it can rise to occasions like this, most notably by defeating LAFC on the road in the second leg of the 2023 Concacaf Champions Cup Final.
Nashville enters Leagues Cup after already competing in one international tournament this year, reaching the semifinals of the Concacaf Champions Cup. Riding excellent form, the hosts appear well positioned to begin their Leagues Cup campaign on the right foot as they pursue one of the four MLS spots in the quarterfinals.
