WHAT TO EXPECT?
Both teams are coming off strong Phase One performances. Toluca capitalized on its home-field advantage and scored enough goals to advance on goal difference, while Austin FC relied on a strong defense that conceded just once and finished the opening round undefeated.
Toluca enters as the reigning Concacaf Champions Cup champion and currently sits third in Liga MX, while Austin FC is 14th in the MLS Western Conference. Austin is also chasing a place in next season’s Concacaf Champions Cup, which it can secure with a top-three finish in Leagues Cup.
In this winner-take-all matchup, both sides have plenty of attacking weapons but will face two of the strongest defensive units from Phase One. With no margin for error, finding a way through those defenses could ultimately determine who moves on.
The Diablos Rojos will need to keep a close eye on Myrto Uzuni, who scored a hat trick against Puebla before adding the equalizer against América on Matchday 3. With Jesús Gallardo helping lead the defensive unit, Antonio Mohamed’s Toluca has also shown its defensive strength beyond Leagues Cup after conceding an average of just one goal per match in Liga MX last season.
The winner will move on to face either León or Real Salt Lake in the Semifinals, putting both sides one step closer to a place in the Leagues Cup Final.
Polymarket sees Toluca as the clear favorite, giving the Liga MX side a 78% chance compared to 24% for Austin FC ahead of their Leagues Cup Quarterfinal clash.
