MATCH RECAP: Cristian Espinoza Brace Powers Nashville over Atlético San Luis

By Erick De La Rosa

A convincing 4-1 victory for Nashville over Atlético de San Luis kept the MLS side’s hopes alive in Leagues Cup 2026. The Tennessee club responded emphatically after falling behind to Rafa Llorente’s opener, turning the match around behind a stellar performance from Argentine midfielder Cristian Espinoza. The No. 7 struck twice late in the first half to help Nashville take control and ultimately secure all three points.

With the victory, B.J. Callaghan’s side earned its first points of the tournament after a narrow Matchday 1 defeat to León and put itself right back in the race for one of the four quarterfinal spots available to MLS clubs. For Atlético de San Luis, the result brought its knockout hopes to an end after back-to-back defeats left the Potosinos unable to finish among the top four Liga MX teams.

Nashville will now turn its attention to a decisive final Phase One matchup against Monterrey. With both clubs still in contention for a place in the quarterfinals, the stakes will be high as Nashville looks to build on its four-goal performance and complete its push toward the knockout rounds.
