Blink and they’re back! Major League Soccer is fresh off a busy weekend, but that hasn’t stopped the league from getting set for another busy round of fixtures. Ten games are set to take place this evening, including the resumption of Portland’s trip to Colorado – here’s our preview of four key matches tonight:
New England Revolution vs. Atlanta United FC
The Revs are coming off a frustrating loss to New York Red Bulls at the weekend – they battled hard after Latif Blessing was sent off, but despite pulling level, would eventually concede a winner late on. They’ll be looking to keep pressure on the top of the Eastern Conference as they welcome an Atlanta side that, despite missing some key players, has recorded two wins (and clean sheets) in a row and could leapfrog the hosts with a win.
Houston Dynamo vs. Minnesota United FC
Houston snatched a two-match losing run with a gritty draw against Sporting Kansas City on Saturday – a late, late equalizer from Iván Franco made the difference. Here, they’ll face a Minnesota side who have struggled for form of late and are coming off a tough loss to Austin, one which saw them slip out of the top nine.
Sporting Kansas City vs. Real Salt Lake
Alan Pulido continues to rocket up the scoring charts – after a brace on Saturday, he has ten goals this season, and stopping him will be key to the hosts’ hopes. In Real Salt Lake, SKC will face a strong test – the visitors are on a seven-match unbeaten run and new signing Chicho Arango scored on his debut on Saturday, helping RSL to a comprehensive win over Orlando.
Los Angeles Football Club vs. St. Louis CITY SC
The expansion side are putting top spot on the line as they head west. LAFC have stuttered in the last six weeks or so, but a win here could move them to within two points of top spot, which should provide ample motivation. St. Louis will travel without top scorer João Klauss, but remain as dangerous as ever, having notched a gritty road win in Toronto on Saturday.
