MLS vs. LIGA MX Clash: Club America takes on. Chicago Fire

CHICAGOAMERICA

Following its debut match in Leagues Cup 2023, CF Club América looked like it would be one of the favorites to win the tournament. The club traveled to St. Louis, and pounded the expansion Major League Soccer side 4-0 in dominating fashion. And two of the club’s new signings, Julián Quiñones and Kevin Álverez impressed, giving America fans plenty to be excited about. But the club followed up that win with a club-worst loss to an MLS side, falling 4-1 to Columbus Crew.

The Chicago Fire didn’t have quite the disappointment in their group stage. The club opened the tournament with a thrilling 3-2 win over Minnesota United thanks to two late goals from Arnaud Souquet and Kei Kamara. The club then earned an exciting 1-1 draw against Club Puebla thanks to a highlight-reel free kick goal from Xherdan Shaqiri. (The team lost in PKs, but they had already punched their ticket into the knockout round).

América has shown it can score goals in bunches when it wants to while the Fire have proven that they are never truly out of a match until the very end. If Chicago can keep the match from getting out of control early, we may be in for an action-packed final moments of the match.

Despite the two clubs being connected by Mexican legend Cuauhtémoc Blanco wearing both of their jerseys, this will be the first official match between the two clubs.
