Philadelphia Union fans received a boost this afternoon when the club announced that Daniel Gazdag and Alejandro Bedoya would both be available for selection ahead of the club’s semifinal showdown with Inter Miami CF:
“[Daniel] will participate fully,” Union head coach Jim Curtin said. “He trained today fully and looked great. Happy to have him back and it’s a relief that it wasn’t more serious. He’s Hungarian. He’s tough by nature and he’s not missing this one.”
Gazdag, the club’s leading scorer during the regular season and Leagues cup, was out for the club’s quarterfinal win against Querétaro due to a minor injury. He had started in the previous four Leagues Cup 2023 matches for the club and had four goals in the tournament.
Curtin also revealed that the club’s captain, Bedoya, would also be available for selection.
“It’s great to have [Ale] Bedoya back and he’ll be available to us,” Curtin said. “Now that he is coming back into the team and to add him into the group in such a big-pressure semifinal, it’s a great weapon to have and utilize off the bench.”
Bedoya last appeared for the Union just before Leagues Cup play began on July 16th, but had to come out of the match after half an hour because of an injury. Earlier in the year, he missed time on the pitch because of a hamstring injury. In all of the matches he’s played in this season, he has been the team captain.
One player noticeably absent from the club update was the club’s second-leading goal scorer, Julian Carranza. In their Leagues Cup quarterfinal match, he came off the pitch due to an injury in the 81st minute.
