The Apertura 2023 has resumed after an exciting month of Leagues Cup 2023. Both LIGA MX and Major League Soccer are back in action in their regular seasons and Matchday 4 was on the menu in Mexico. Here is our recap of all the action:
Club Leon 2-1 Mazatlán CF
After both teams lost in the Round of 32 of Leagues Cup 2023, the hosts scored goals through Ángel Mena and Federico Viñas, while Aké Loba had the reply for the visitors, who continue to struggle domestically.
Pumas 1-1 Toluca FC
It was a tough battle for the hosts after being eliminated at the hands of Club Querétaro in the Round of 32. They returned with their fans at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario and had several scoring chances that they missed, ending the match with a draw.
Club Puebla 1-2 Atlético de San Luis
The visitors resumed league play with their second victory of the 2023 Apertura, after Mateo Klimowicz and Vitinho scored; Guillermo Martínez Ayala pulled one back for La Franja.
FC Juarez 1-1 Chivas de Guadalajara
It was a hard-fought comeback for El Rebaño Sagrado. They failed to qualify for the knockout stages of the 2023 Leagues Cup and a penalty from Avilés Hurtado in the 84th minute prevented them from taking home the three points. Even so, they remain league leaders.
Cruz Azul 2-2 Club Santos Laguna
La Máquina returned to the Azteca Stadium in front of their fans fans and they had an entertaining match against the Laguneros. Diber Cambindo and Uriel Antuna scored the goals for Los Cementeros, while Harold Preciado had a brace for the visitors.
Club Queretaro 1-1 Club Pachuca
Undoubtedly, the surprise of Leagues Cup 2023 was the team led by Mauro Gerk as they reached the quarterfinals. Here they tied against Pachuca; Ángel Sepúlveda scored for Los Gallos, while Roberto de la Rosa scored for Los Tuzos.
Club América 1-1 Atlas FC
This match saw plenty of intrigue as Julián Quiñones faced his former team. The show on the pitch was worth the anticipation, as Los Rojinegros, had a goal from Jordy Caicedo, while Brian Rodríguez netted an equalizer.
Club Necaxa 0-3 Club Tigres
The current champions got off on the right foot on the road, as André-Pierre Gignac, Jesús Angulo and Luis Quiñones all scored in a comprehensive win over struggling Necaxa.
