Fans on social media and at DRV PNK Stadium alike went wild on Friday night, as the preamble to the opening game of Leagues Cup saw a historic embrace between two sporting icons in LeBron James and Lionel Messi.
The NBA legend as well as several of the biggest celebrities in the United States and around the world did not want to miss Messi's first game with Inter Miami CF, and his first in North American soccer.
The Florida team’s dramatic win over **Cruz Azul**, brought in celebrities from all walks of life. One of those present was American model Kim Kardashian, who was accompanied by her sons Saint and Psalm, both wearing the number 10’s shirt on their backs.
Another sporting star could not go unnoticed - LeBron James, an NBA legend who currently turns out for Los Angeles Lakers, was also at DRV PNK Stadium. His meeting with Leo saw a warm embrace minutes before the start of the game, and made something of a splash in Florida.
Former Tennis world number one Serena Williams, was also in town to see Messi, another show of the Argentine player’s presence in North American sport.
The stadium’s VIP area down by the pitch also saw musical guests in singer Becky G, as well as Marc Anthony. The Beckham family, led by David and Victoria, were also watching on from close up and got their snap with LeBron James. The former England international is president and co-owner of Inter Miami, who will be hoping for a deep run at Leagues Cup.
Sergio “Kun” Agüero was not going to miss this one either, as the legendary former Manchester City striker was also at the stadium, along with his son, to support his friend Lionel Messi.
