Seattle Sounders were founded in 1974 as the Seattle Sounders of the North American Soccer League (NASL). The team was one of the most successful teams in NASL history, winning the Soccer Bowl in 1977, 1978, and 1979. The Sounders folded in 1983 due to financial problems but were re-launched in 2007 as an MLS expansion team.
The Sounders have been one of the most successful teams in MLS since their inception. They have won the MLS Cup in 2016 and 2019, and they have also won the Supporters' Shield in 2014 and 2016.
Sounders will be part of **West 2** in the 2023 Leagues Cup, along with Real Salt Lake and Monterrey. Seattle will arrive at the tournament in 2nd place of the Western Conference in MLS. They have 35 points from 22 matches played, having won 10 games, drawn 5 and lost 7.
