**Philadelphia Union** and **CF Monterrey** are facing off in the Leagues Cup 2023 third-place play-off. Not only is a spot on the podium at stake, but also the chance to qualify for next year’s CONCACAF Champions Cup. Just moments after kick-off, the game saw the fastest goal in the tournament, as Jesús Bueno scored for the MLS outfit 33 seconds in.
In the first attack of the match, the Philadelphia Union approached the box from the right-hand side of the pitch. After a rebound, the ball was left to Mikael Uhre, who crossed into the six-yard box. Dániel Gazdag unleashed a shot, and the ball hit CF Monterrey goalkeeper Luis Cárdenas’ left post. The ball was lying inches from the goal line, and Jesús Bueno only needed to push it in, scoring the first goal of the match.
It was the Venezuelan’s second goal of the tournament, and at 24 years of age, Bueno is carving out a spot in the MLS side’s first team. He arrived in July of 2021, and over the past campaign has been rising up the pecking order and showing his talent, which was clear in his opener tonight.
With the early opener, Bueno has beaten Brandon Vázquez’s record which stood since his goal after 85 seconds in FC Cincinnati’s 3-1 win over Chivas de Guadalajara.
Philadelphia Union are now in an ideal position to go on and clinch third place in the tournament, which would grant them one of the three tickets to the CONCACAF Champions Cup on offer at Leagues Cup 2023.
