Sporting Kansas City was founded in 1995 as the Kansas City Wizards. The team was one of the charter members of MLS. In 2005, the team changed their name to Sporting Kansas City. They have won two MLS Cups, in 2000 and 2013. They have also won the U.S. Open Cup four times, in 2004, 2012, 2015, and 2017. They are led by American coach Peter Vermes.
The Wizards will be part of the group, Central 3 in this 2023 Leagues Cup, along with FC Cincinnati and Chivas Guadalajara. Kansas City will enter the tournament off the back of a 10th place standing in the Western Conference in MLS.
Sporting Kansas City will kick-off in Leagues Cup 2023 on July 23 at 7:30 p.m. ET at TQL Stadium against FC Cincinnati.
