Sometimes the heat of the moment can spark some rash decisions on the field, and we all know that rash actions have consequences. Sporting Kansas City striker Alan Pulido will know this all too well tonight, following a heated sending off which sees him miss a reunion with his former club Chivas de Guadalajara.
Sporting Kansas City were 2-0 up against a FC Cincinnati side who had not lost in their last 15 matches at home. They were good value for their lead, aided by an own goal and an emphatic header via defender Rosero.
In a sudden momentary lapse of judgement - everything changed for Pulido. A near byline tussle for the ball saw the Mexican striker and Colombian defender Yerson Mosquera collide off pitch, with Pulido going in for a full head-butt on the Colombian.
No excuses, the referee immediately reached into his pocket to brandish a straight red card. Whilst the immediate consequences mean his side have to play the remaining 60 minutes of the match with ten men, it also has permutations for the rest of the tournament.
Pulido will now certainly miss a reunion with his former team in Chivas de Guadalajara where he played from 2016 until 2020. The Mexican made a total of 117 appearances for the side from LIGA MX, scoring 41 goals in total and registering seven assists for Las Chivas.
